Our Founder
Over twenty- five years ago, a local homeschooling parent, Glenda Jones, wanted to create an opportunity for homeschool students to perform in a premier musical group. Over the years, the group has grown in size, as well as level of musical ability. Mrs. Jones even took 60 students to the Florida band festival and received a superior rating.
The West Florida Home Education Music Association (WFHEMA) is widely known as the Homeschool Band.
Today, the Homeschool Band is the premier homeschool musical association in Northwest Florida. The group has expanded to include three directors, six performance groups, and wind and string instruments. In addition, we include homeschool, private school, and public school musicians. Throughout the year, we focus on musical and instrumental instruction; assessment opportunities, such as the solo and ensemble contest and sonata competition; performance opportunities in many locations; and fun, as well as educational and social opportunities.
We welcome you to look through our website to understand more about our organization. We strive to be a warm, Christ-centered, educational, musical group for children ages 8 to 18.
